News for IWU’s Campus

The Sojourn Athlete of the Week, presented by Amplify Media, is grad student Kam Buck from the IWU Softball program.

She hails from Middletown, Indiana, where she attended Shenandoah High School.

Buck has spent all four seasons with the Wildcats, receiving the All-Crossroads League 2nd team in 2022 and 2023.

She is an Outfielder and has achieved an average of .944% from the field and a hitting average of .304 through her first four years.

“This year has been different. The freshman class came in, and it’s been all about fun. There’s no way else to do it. This has been a game that we’ve been blessed to play, and we have the opportunity from the Lord,” said Buck.

Buck has been a key concept to this year’s success as the softball program is currently 17th in the Nation and number 1 in the Crossroads league as the team’s overall record is 27-5 and 18-2 in conference play.

One of the biggest reasons why this program is always being talked about, other than its success on the field, is its head coach, Steve Babinski.

“Making sure that our spiritual being is put first and foremost, then he seeks us out as human beings before just a softball player,” Buck said.

One of Buck’s favorite memories since being on the team has to do with the baptisms that they have held since her time here.

“Whether it’s in our team or we are bringing other teams to Christ,” Buck said.

The Wildcats continue their home stretch with eight more conference series before beginning Crossroads tournament games. Follow IWU Softball on iwuwildcats.com to watch live updates regarding the team’s success.
